Summer is well underway in Canada. We started off the season with a record breaking heat wave that was not fun. So, I’m glad we just have the normal summer heat again!
I thought I’d share these two slip dresses for anyone who’s looking for a fast and easy sewing project.
I made the first slip dress using Simplicity S8890 by Mimi G Style. The fabric is rayon which is perfect for summer- its very light and flowy. Rayon does tend to wrinkle though, so just beware of that if you’re planning to use it. I love this dress! I don’t usually like backless clothes but I will probably just use this for beach days.
It was very easy to sew. If you are a beginner, you could also use the free sewalong on youtube. I’ll include this at the end of this post.
Overall, I’m happy with how it turned out and wouldn’t change anything major in the pattern. The only thing is that I’m short and small chested. So, I did cut off an inch from the straps.
The second slip dress I made was the Saltwater Slip by the Friday Pattern Company. It was also very easy. I did not have a free sew long but the instructions were very well written. So, if you’re a beginner, I think you could make this easily. My recommendation- the pattern says woven fabrics but I found that it’s not super comfortable in terms of mobility. So, I’d definitely make it out of something with some stretch next time. I did make it according to my size but the sides (where my hips are) still started to tear! (even with serged seams). So, I’m probably going cut it into a tank top.
Here is the free sew along I mentioned before.
Let me know what you think of these dresses 🙂
